Natural Appetite Suppressant: Water!

Hot off the press! We've got good news for dieters. The recent National Meeting of the American Chemical Society (ACS) reports a new finding that promises new hope for those trying to lose weight. It’s an easy and simple technique that involves no cost, no drugs, no exercise, and no side effects. Oh, and no surgery.

A recent weight loss study found that drinking two glasses of water before every meal aids in weight loss. During a 12 week period, dieters who drank two glasses of water before their three meals a day lost 5 pounds more than those who did not drink water before their meals, according to Brenda Davy, Ph.D., one of the authors of the weight loss study

How can drinking water help you lose weight? The reason is deceptively simple. When we drink more water, the stomach has less room for food. You will feel full sooner and eat less. That theory was put to the test, and it proved true. The dieters who drank water before their meals did eat less, and with fewer calories to burn, they lost more weight.

Water, as you may know, has zero calories, but that doesn’t mean it has zero health benefits. Water is one of the most important health tonics available, and not only because it fills you up at meals. The hydration we get from drinking water (as opposed to sodas and other sweetened beverages) is crucial for proper digestion and elimination, both of which weight heavily on weight management.

Weight gain and bloating are associated with improper food digestion, congested liver and body toxicity. Excess toxins tend to be stored in our fat cells, which makes us fatter. This is why a detox diet is so effective for weight loss. You are literally shrinking your fat cells when you cleanse your body of toxins.

Sodas and sweetened drinks are now understood to be directly implicated in the overweight and obesity epidemic sweeping the US, where we consume more sodas per capita.

If plain water is just too plain, you can substitute unsweetened herbal fruit tea. Also, you can drink unsweetened dieter’s teas.

Bottom line: if you do nothing else to beef up your weight loss program, try this experiment for yourself. Drink two glasses of water before your meals.
