Weight Loss Tip #1. Glycemic Index and Weight Loss

If you don’t know about the glycemic index of foods and its impact on weight loss, study up. This is one of the most overlooked factors in weight gain and weight loss. High glycemic foods raise the levels of insulin in your blood, which tells your body to store fat. Low glycemic foods keeps insulin levels balanced, which increases the efficiency with which the food you eat is burned as energy.

Weight Loss Tip #2. Calorie Density and Weight Loss

Be aware of the calorie density of foods and eat accordingly. Your stomach doesn’t know how many calories you’re eating, it only knows the volume of food you’re eating. If you eat high calorie dense foods, you’re eating more calories for the volume than low calorie dense foods. This makes non-starchy vegetables and low-glycemic fruits a good choice for weight loss.

Weight Loss Tip #3. Digestion and Weight Loss

Proper digestion plays an important role in weight loss. Undigested food not only causes bloating and discomfort, it is an ideal ingredient for the production of body fat.

Weight Loss Tip #4. Artificial Ingredients and Weight Loss

Avoid artificial ingredients. They become toxins in the body. Toxins that are not immediately flushed from our bodies are stored in our fat cells. Avoid artificial sweeteners. They trick the body’s insulin response. Even if your artificial sweetener has zero calories, if it raises insulin levels, your body will respond as if you’ve eaten sugar.
 

Weight Loss Tip #5. Coconut Oil and Weight Loss

Coconut oil is a wonderful dietary fat in any weight loss diet. It is high in medium-chain fatty acids, which are broken down for energy production (and not deposited as body fat).

Weight Loss Tip #6. Late Night Eating and Weight Loss

Don’t eat after 7 pm, or at the very latest, 3 hours before going to bed. Your metabolism slows down when you sleep, so any food that might be in your digestive track is likely to be converted to body fat. One of the best things you can do for weight loss is give up late night eating.
 

Weight Loss Tip #7. Exercise and Weight Loss

Aerobics is not the best exercise for weight loss. If you want to lose weight, you need to burn fat, and to burn fat, you need to build muscle. Aerobic exercise alone won’t do it. Weight lifting and other forms of strength training builds muscle mass, and in the process, burns fat reserves. The ideal exercise plan for weight loss is an alternating combination of strength training and cardio aerobic exercise.
 

Weight Loss Tip #8. Brushing and Weight Loss

Whether you're brushing your hair or your teeth, take this time to double task to your advantage. Take these 5 or so minutes to do some squats. With feet shoulder width apart, put your free hand on your hip or on the countertop for balance, and lower your body as low and comfortably as you can, keeping your back straight. Repeat 7 more times. Do as many sets of 8 as you can on each side. Make this a regular habit for to enhance your weight loss efforts.
 

Weight Loss Tip #9. Food Substitutions and Weight Loss

Substitute foods instead of completely eliminating them. Instead of a Cinnabun, have a piece of whole wheat toast (preferably the high protein variety) with a smear of coconut oil, stevia powder or Truvia, and cinnamon. Instead of a pizza, make a healthy tortilla pizza in your toaster oven. Use a whole wheat tortilla, spread it with tomato sauce, low-fat cheese, lean chicken strips (keep extra next time you grill or roast a chicken) and a few veggies. Get creative and come up with your own weight loss substitutions.

Weight Loss Tip #10. Protein and Weight Loss

Don’t skip meals, whatever you do - especially breakfast. When you skip meals, you trick your body into starvation mode, which lowers your fat-burning metabolism and signals your body to store fat for future reserves. Eat protein early in the day and at every meal and snack. Protein is your weight loss friend because it keeps your blood sugar steady. Protein will prevent late-afternoon energy dips and sweet cravings.
